‘Why’ HVAC Questions and the Probable Answers

HVACWhen summer comes and you realize your AC unit is not working as expected, it can be frustrating. There are many reasons behind a problem like this one of them being the age of your unit. In some instances, your HVAC system may not cool properly or show signs of slow performance. While some homeowners tend to be confused on what to do, below are some of the common questions and the likely answers.

AC Doesn’t Start

This is a problem that is mostly caused by damages to the compressor and fan. When your AC unit turns on and off many times, such damages may result. Whenever you suspect that this could be the case, call a local professional to help you test to your HVAC electrical connections.

Wrong Temperature

The AC unit is meant to cool your home to the right temperature. However, when this is not achieved, there could be a problem with the positioning of the thermostat. Check it out to see whether the needle or the numbers indicate the approved temperature. Where the air temperature does not match the thermostat reading, ask for expert advice.

AC is on But Not Working

This is a problem that may be caused by a leaking AC unit. When the refrigerant is initially charged into the system, it is not expected to discharge. However, there are factors that may cause the refrigerant level to go down principal among them leakages. If you discover this is the problem, call a technician immediately.

Underperforming AC

If it happens that your AC unit is positioned on a window, chances are the thermostat is knocked or pressed out of its knob. To fix this problem, simply replace the wire into the right position.

Water Leaks

The AC drain system is the one that carries the condensate outside. It consists of tiny water tunnels which may clog with time. This is one of the main reasons why water may start leaking out of the unit.

Inadequate Airflow

Filters are meant to be replaced at least once every three months. However, the frequency of replacement or cleaning depend on the environment and how busy the filter is. When the filters are clogged, they limit airflow through the system and this undermines the capacity of the unit to cool the air in your home. Before you start the summer season, it is important that your filters are either cleaned or replaced. This will give your unit maximum efficiency.

Warm Air Leaking into the AC

This is usually caused by unsealed window spaces around the unit. To prevent hot air from leaking or alternatively allowing cold air to sip out, ensure you fix the window spaces.

Many of the above problems can be prevented if your unit is regularly checked by a technician. The checking can be twice a year before the beginning of summer and winter.
